Datuk Thomas Leong Yew Hong joined George Kent (Malaysia) Berhad on 1 August 2024 as the Director of Strategy and Investments.

In this role, Datuk Thomas is responsible for developing and executing long term strategies to drive sustainable growth for the Group. His portfolio encompasses business development, investments, and mergers and acquisitions, with a focus on expanding the Group’s presence in complementary businesses in water infrastructure and rail transportation. Additionally, his responsibilities include identifying opportunities in renewable energy, high technology, artificial intelligence and data centre solutions.

Datuk Thomas has more than 30 years of strategy & management consulting experience across the industrial, automotive and financial services sectors. He has held senior leadership roles in corporate strategy, mergers & acquisitions, business management, investor relations, innovation and digital transformation. His extensive regional exposure includes Australia, China, Hong Kong and Singapore, with notable leadership roles at Sime Darby Berhad, Malayan Banking Berhad, Accenture and Deloitte Consulting. He was previously a member of the Boards of Tesco Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Ramsay Sime Darby Healthcare Group, and Sime Darby Lockton Sdn Bhd.

An alumnus of Harvard Business School, Datuk Thomas holds a Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering from the Australian National University and a Master of Business Administration from University of Sydney. He has also completed executive leadership programmes at INSEAD.

Chief Operations Officer – Metering & Engineering

Mr Teoh Cy Kuan joined George Kent (Malaysia) Berhad on 2 May 2023 as Senior General Manager at the Chairman’s Office. He was re-designated as Chief Operations Officer – Metering & Engineering on 5 March 2024.

In his current role, Mr Teoh oversees all aspects of the Metering and Engineering divisions’ operations, developing and implementing strategies to improve operational efficiency in meeting production targets, quality standards, and profitability goals.

Mr Teoh has over 30 years of experience in heavy equipment trading, high technology manufacturing, upstream oil & gas operations, pharmaceuticals & management consulting with notable leadership stints at Sime Darby Bhd, Sime Darby Industrial Sdn Bhd, Accenture & Schlumberger Oilfield Services.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Wichita State University in the United States and is a Member of the Institute of Corporate Directors Malaysia (ICDM).

General Manager – Meters

Mr Yap Cheng Leung was appointed General Manager – Meters in February 2016. Prior to that, he was the Assistant General Manager of Metering Sales since February 2009.

In his current capacity, Mr Yap oversees the sales and marketing of the Group’s proprietary Automated Meter Reading Solution, water meters and industrial products for the local markets. As the head of the Group’s Product Engineering team since February 2019, he is also responsible for product development and business expansion.

Mr Yap has over 22 years of experience in the manufacturing, marketing and sales operations for both the local and export sales of George Kent’s metering and non-metering products. He also worked as a Mechanical Engineer in the engineering and construction of a water treatment plant during his tenure with the Group.

He holds a Master of Science in Engineering Business Management from the University of Warwick and a Higher National Diploma from Tunku Abdul Rahman College.

General Manager – Finance & Control

Mr Ong Kum Weng is the General Manager of Finance & Control. He has over 34 years of experience in external and internal auditing, risk management and accounting. Prior to joining George Kent, he was the Assistant General Manager of Finance at another public-listed company.

He is a qualified accountant and holds memberships with the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Malaysian Institute of Accountants.
